Employers guide to getting started

Regardless of the size of an organisation, whether a sole trader, self-employed business owner, a small to medium size business or large organisation, supporting menopause in the workplace is important both for the well-being of your employees and for legal compliance.

Things to consider

Understand what menopause is

Learn about menopause, who it affects and how it can impact workers in the workplace

Educate your workforce

Consider using a menopause business toolkit

Understand your legal responsibilities as an employer

Make sure you have established steps, protocols, and assistance available to support workers

Develop a Menopause in the Workplace Policy

A policy raises awareness, reduces stigma, provides guidance, outlines flexible working arrangements, access to facilities, and training for managers

Wellbeing of Women Charity have developed a free e-learning course in partnership with NHS England, to help organisations create a supportive working environment that champions wellbeing of those affected by menopause, so that they can thrive in the workplace.

The course is designed for everyone and will be helpful for people experiencing their own menopause, or for people looking for information to support colleagues, employees, friends or relatives.
